The American Thyroid Association (ATA) endorses the use of Potassium Iodide (KI) to protect people from absorbing radioactive iodine released during nuclear emergencies. The NRC (Nuclear Regulatory Commission) states that Potassium Iodide, if taken in time, and at the appropriate dosage, blocks the thyroid gland’s uptake of radioactive iodine and thus reduces risk of thyroid cancers and other diseases.
