Manufactured in accordance with U.S. Government specifications, The Air Force 499 Survival Knife is the standard against which other survival knives are measured, with the capabilities of handling close combat. Its .187" thick full length tang, made of 1095 carbon steel (rc 50-55) with a black non-reflective zinc phosphate finish, holds its edge for a more sure and smooth cut and re-sharpens well for years of reliable use. The upper portion of the clip point is sharpened, which makes it a handy gutting knife to keep at hand while hunting, fishing, and camping, and the flat grind edge is sharp with a sawtooth on the spine for heavier cutting jobs. You'll have no trouble keeping a sure comfortable grip, even when wet, with the natural leather "stacked washer" handle's deep grooves. Holes in the double hilt allow you to lash your survival knife to a pole for use as a spear, and trimming the top of the knife is a heavy steel butt cap, so you can use it as a hammer for a multitude of jobs like driving nails and tent stakes, and opening ration cans. Our Air Force Survival Knife measures 9½" overall, and is always close at hand when you need it, in its own natural leather sheath that has belt loops, sharpening stone, and leg ties.
